When is the best time to book an appointment?
We provide a wide range of services from 7 to 36 weeks into your pregnancy. In all our packages, we combine wellbeing checks, bonding time with your baby and memorable pictures for the family album. The earlier you are in your pregnancy however, the more emphasis there is on wellbeing and bonding. Baby is quite tiny at 12 weeks (typically just 6 cm long and just 12 grams in weight) so the most detailed pictures come later. Equally it is best not to wait too long, since baby’s environment becomes quite congested later on in pregnancy, with less amniotic fluid and more obstacles to producing the nicest pictures.
If your primary objective is to obtain great images, our experience tells us that the best opportunity to capture the most memorable pictures is from 26 weeks until 28 weeks into your pregnancy. If you can’t wait to see your baby though, and you also want great pictures for the album, book a Baby Bundle – a Quick Peek early into your pregnancy at around 16 weeks to see and meet your baby for the first time, and maybe find out the gender, and then a Baby Supermodel or a Little Movie Star at 26 – 28 weeks. You see amazing progress between the two visits, and we discount both packages by around 10%.
Can I invite family and friends to join me?
Yes. In fact we encourage it for all visits where your pregnancy is 16 weeks or later. Prior to 16 weeks, we ask you to come alone or with one chosen partner.
Our studio is designed to provide a family-friendly experience with a spacious bonding room equipped with additional screens so everyone can see the baby-to-be. If the total of friends and family attending reaches 4 or more - great! We have a separate viewing theatre equipped with a widescreen projector creating a 2 metre image with a digital audio & video feed from the bonding room so literally everyone can participate in the experience. The best bonding experiences often include the father-to-be, siblings, friends and family. It is a great opportunity, in the right setting, to introduce the future family member to siblings, grandparents and other family members. It's real 'wow' factor for friends too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will baby debut be able to tell if my baby is a boy or a girl?
For all the packages which are bookable from 16 weeks onwards, the answer is YES! The scan will, in most cases, offer a clear indication of baby's gender with an accuracy of 99 per cent. Baby's position and other factors can sometimes make this less certain and so no-one offers 100% certainty. If you really do want to know the gender, and we really can't tell at your appointment, we invite you back at your convenience, at no extra charge, for another look until we are sure. For packages which are bookable up to 16 weeks, we can take a look if time permits, but we will only advise you on probabilities at this early stage.
At baby debut we always ask you first whether you wish to know the gender. If you don't, we try to select images that won't give the secret away too soon!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can baby debut guarantee a great image of my baby?
The simple answer is YES. Does my baby have a kick like David Beckham? Does she look like me? Well, there are no scripts yet, and so no guarantees of an Oscar-winning performance, but we often see smiles, yawns, thumb-sucking, kicking, waving and some of the funniest facial expressions that you will want to see time and time again. On occasions baby may have settled face-down and be fast asleep so we may ask you to lie on one side or the other - we have a specially designed electrically operated reclining bed for this so don't worry! We may also ask you to take a break, a cold drink, or walk around for a few minutes to wake baby, persuade baby to move around, and create different angles of imaging, to get the best pictures. If baby is persistently shy or reluctant to show its face at your appointment, we ask you to pay only once, then invite you to return, free of charge, at your convenience, until you are happy with the results. We want you to be as delighted with the images as we are taking them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from my visit at baby debut?
Your appointment at baby debut focuses on enhancing the bonding process between you and your baby before birth. The session starts with some light administration in the reception/publishing area, then into the bonding room. The sonographer first performs wellbeing checks, mostly 2D, on your pregnancy and baby, whilst establishing baby's position for the following 3D and 4D image capture. Then she will switch to 3D and 4D imaging mode and you will see amazing 3D/4D images of your baby. You can discover, or confirm, baby's gender if you wish during the session. After this, you will then move to the publishing area to review all your images, and select which ones you wish to have printed and framed. All this is done in an unhurried, relaxing atmosphere by professionals who are specialists in their field.
If you are really pressed for time after your appointment, you may opt to come back another day to review and choose your favourite images. We have a publishing centre and a separate room for private and relaxed viewing of CDs and DVDs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if Baby Debut should find a problem?
In all our packages, as part of our ethical code of conduct, we perform a limited diagnostic scan to confirm estimate of heart rate, number of babies, baby presentation and the placental location. Ultrasound gestation measurements and dating will be performed when appropriate.
Our equipment is specialized and our staff are very experienced however, so - if any anomaly is noted or suspected we will inform you and provide information for your doctor/midwife if you wish us to. Our staff are well qualified to help you and to forward the information to your primary prenatal carers. Confidentiality is assured.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is non-medical elective 3D/4D imaging?
A Non Medical Prenatal 3D/4D Ultrasound is a non diagnostic ultrasound scan using a medical ultrasound machine to create snapshot images of your baby in both 3 and 4 dimensions. 3D images are printed or saved onto a CD-ROM. The 4D scan shows the movements and gestures of the baby and records these, typically onto a DVD disk. Growing demand for this type of imaging service has been created largely in response to the public's growing awareness of the technological advancements and inherent safety in ultrasound imaging, together with the natural desire of the pregnant mother to see and start to bond with her baby before it arrives. Public hospitals and clinics are not always the optimum location for this. Mothers-to-be want to enjoy a serene environment, without the noise, pressures and time restrictions normal with hospitals and clinics, to spend time getting to know her baby. She also wants the option to do it at a time that suits her, and with however many friends and family she wishes to bring along to share this experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I schedule for earlier scans?
YES. We provide services for gestation points from 7 to 36 weeks, in a wide range of packages. See the Imaging Services options on the home page.
We also provide Baby Bundle options for parents-to-be who would like to "meet" their baby as soon as possible in the pregnancy (typically 16-22 weeks) to start the bonding process, and then come back later (typically 27-32 weeks) to get the nicest possible 3D/4D images.
If you are choosing to come only once, baby debut recommends that you come between 27 and 32 weeks when your baby's physiology is more fully developed, and there is still adequate amniotic fluid to surround him/her.
One of our options - the "Celebrity Family Album" - follows the course of your pregnancy from 12 weeks until after the birth and records images at each major milestone, providing a visual album of your pregnancy. Many Baby Debut mothers like the idea of recording their pregnancy in this way and come in as early as 12 weeks, again at 18+ weeks for gender identification, and once again between 27 - 32 weeks when the best results for the 3D/4D ultrasound images can be obtained.
